Your Organic Bone Broth Questions Answered

Your Organic Bone Broth Questions Answered

Bone broth is having a moment. Everywhere you look, someone's telling you to sip it, cook with it, add it to your morning routine. But here's the thing — this product has been used for centuries to add flavour to meals and to boost wellbeing. It's not a trend, it's just being rediscovered.

I've been making it, using it and enjoying it in my cooking as a staple since I was a kid. So while it might feel new to a lot of people right now, for me it's just always been part of the kitchen.

Not all bone broth is made equal though, and I get asked the same questions about ours over and over again.

So I thought it was time to sit down and answer them properly. Not the polished, corporate version. The real one - the way I'd explain it to you if you were standing in front of me at the markets.

I've been certified organic for 14 years now, and bone broth has become one of the most loved parts of what we do at Love My Earth. It wasn't part of the original vision — the business started with single organic spices — but it's grown into something our community genuinely relies on, week to week, in their own kitchens.

Loving something and being honest about it aren't mutually exclusive though, so let's get into the questions I hear most.

In This Post, You'll Discover:

  • Why organic matters more than grass-fed alone
  • What's really hiding in a lot of stock powders
  • Whether all bone broth on the market is actually Australian made
  • What bone broth can do for your gut (and why I say do your own research)
  • The many ways to use it beyond just a hot drink
  • Whether it fits gluten-free and dairy-free diets
  • Why proper bone broth costs what it costs

Is Organic Better Than Grass-Fed?

This one comes up a lot, and I understand why — grass-fed sounds like it should be enough.

But here's what most people don't realise: grass-fed cattle can still be chemically farmed. They can still be given hormones. They can still be given antibiotics. They can still be fed a diet that isn't natural to them, even while grazing on grass for part of their life.

And this matters more with bone broth than with almost any other product, because of what bone broth actually is. The bones and marrow are what get cooked down, low and slow, to make the broth. Bones hold onto things. If that animal wasn't raised organically, everything from its life — every chemical, every hormone, every antibiotic — can be sitting in that broth.

So as a rule, we only ever use certified organic bone broth. Not grass-fed. Not "natural." Certified organic. It's the only label that actually means something is being checked, verified, and held accountable. Grass-fed is a nice-to-have. Organic is the non-negotiable.

This is exactly why the certified versus labelled distinction matters so much to me, and it's something I talk about constantly. Anyone can put "organic" on a package. Certification means someone else has actually looked, actually checked, and actually stands behind that claim.

What's the Difference Between Bone Broth and Stock Powders?

Stock powders can have all sorts of things added to them — fillers, gluten, flavour enhancers, salt blends you'd never choose yourself. That's not a dig at every stock powder out there, but it is a genuine warning: read the ingredients. Really read them.

Because a stock powder that's been blended with other things isn't the same as a pure bone broth. If you want the real benefits — the collagen, the gelatin, the protein — you need a broth that hasn't been watered down or bulked out with fillers just to make it cheaper to produce.

To be sure, buy a pure, certified organic broth that hasn't been blended with anything else. That's the whole product. Not a shortcut version of it.

I know reading an ingredients label isn't always the fun part of grocery shopping. But it's one of the simplest ways to protect what actually ends up on your family's table, and it takes seconds once you get into the habit.

A quick way to check: if the ingredients list reads longer than just "organic bone broth," ask why. What else is in there, and what's it doing? Sometimes there's a good reason. Often, there isn't — it's just there to bulk the product out or make it cheaper to produce.

Are All Bone Broth Products Australian Made?

Definitely not. And this is one that genuinely surprises people.

A lot of bone broth products, gelatin and collagen on the market aren't Australian, let alone organic — and often the country of origin isn't even listed clearly on the pack. You have to go looking for it, and sometimes you still can't find it.

I can tell you that every single one of our bone broth products is Australian made, always. We use only the best to make our broth powders, full stop. If you're buying from Love My Earth, that's something you never have to question. You can check the Bone Broth Rice and Bone Broth Hot Chocolate ranges for yourself and see exactly what goes into each one.

It's a small thing, being able to trust a label completely, but it's not small to me. After 14 years of building this business on transparency, it's the part I protect the hardest.

Is It Gut-Friendly? Good for Digestion?

The list of benefits people talk about with bone broth is huge — genuinely huge. But I always say the same thing here: do your own research, and more than that, notice how it feels in your own body. I'm not here to make big claims at you. I'm here to share what I know and what I've experienced.

What I can tell you is that bone broth is particularly high in protein, gelatin and collagen, and that combination has a healthy impact on gut health. It's talked about a lot in relation to inflammation and intestinal health — which, in turn, is connected to things like skin, hair and nails. Food really is medicine, and this is one of those foods where that feels true.

I always come back to this idea because it's genuinely how I live — not a line I say for the brand. What we eat shapes how we feel, how we heal, and how we show up day to day. Bone broth is one small, simple way to bring more of that into an ordinary week, without needing to overhaul your whole diet overnight.

For me personally, a daily dose of bone broth is soothing on my stomach. It helps with digestion issues I deal with myself. And honestly, I just love the taste of it as a hot drink — there's something comforting about it that goes beyond the nutrition side entirely.

We've had customers write in and tell us similar things. One woman, a breast cancer survivor, told us our Bone Broth Rice made "the tastiest, quickest, cheap meal" and that it had been "a game changer" while she was trying to get more good things into her family's diet. She said it was family-friendly, quick and delicious even without following a recipe — and finished with "keep up the great vision." That kind of feedback means everything to me, because it's exactly what we set out to do.

That review has stayed with me. It's a reminder that food isn't just about ingredients on a page — it's about the actual moments it shows up in someone's life, sometimes at the hardest times.

How Do I Use It? Just Add Water, or More?

This is one of my favourite questions, because bone broth is so much more versatile than people expect.

Yes — you can have it as a simple hot drink, and there's real comfort in that. But you can also mix it into soups, curries, rice, pretty much anything that could use a boost of flavour and nourishment. We even add it into our Bone Broth Hot Chocolate, which has become one of our top-selling products — I know that surprises people the first time they hear it, but once they try it, it makes complete sense.

We've also built it straight into our Bone Broth Rice range, so all the prep is done for you. You just add water and cook. Too easy, hey!

I use beef and chicken bone broth in our Bone Broth Rice range, and beef bone broth in our Hot Chocolate — so however you like to enjoy it, there's a way in.

Some of my favourite ways to use it: stirred through a rice bowl with whatever veg is in the fridge, poured into a curry base to deepen the flavour, or simply sipped on its own in the afternoon when you want something warming that isn't coffee or tea. There's no wrong way to bring it into your day.

Is It Suitable for Gluten-Free and Dairy-Free Diets?

Yes, across the board. There are absolutely no gluten fillers and no dairy in any of our products that contain bone broth. As a matter of fact, everything we sell ticks these boxes — it's not something we add for one product and skip for another. It's how we make everything.

If you're navigating a dietary change, or cooking for a family with different needs at the table, that consistency matters. You shouldn't have to double-check every single item every single time.

Why Is It More Expensive?

I'll be honest with you, because that's the only way I know how to answer this.

We use the highest quality Australian-made, certified organic bone broth powders — and certified organic is the only way to actually be sure you're getting the best. These powders are pure and concentrated. They're not blended with anything to bring the cost down. That costs more to produce, and yes, that means it costs more to buy.

But this is what we want to eat in our own house. No feedlot cattle. No shortcuts. Our health is too important to have it any other way, and I'd rather charge what it actually costs than compromise on what goes into the product.

I know price is a real factor for most families, and I don't take that lightly. But I'd rather you buy a smaller pack of something genuinely pure than a bigger one bulked out with fillers you don't actually want. That's the trade-off I stand behind.

Final Thoughts

If there's one thing I want you to take from all of this, it's that bone broth isn't just bone broth. What's behind the label — how the animal was raised, whether it's genuinely certified, whether it's been bulked out with fillers — changes everything about what you're actually putting into your body.

We've built our whole range around not having to ask those questions yourself, because we've already asked them for you. Certified organic. Australian made. Nothing hidden, nothing added just to cut costs.

That's not marketing language, it's just how I've run this business for 14 years, and it's how I'll keep running it.

If you haven't tried it yet, I'd love for you to notice how it feels in your own body — that's always been the real test for me. Not a claim on a label, but how you actually feel after.

This is what 14 years of certified organic has taught me — the details most people never think to ask about are exactly the ones that matter most. So keep asking questions. Keep reading labels. And keep choosing the version of food that actually deserves a place in your home.

I'd love to hear from you — have you tried our Bone Broth Rice or Hot Chocolate yet? Drop a comment and let me know how you enjoy yours, and follow along for more of these honest, heart-inspired conversations about real food.
